Synopsis

The book of Sent Soví is the oldest culinary book preserved in Catalan. This book was written during the first stages of Catalan gastronomic culture; however, it contains recipes, techniques, and ingredients that are still used in modern-day cuisine. Its influence can be seen in other recipe books from the Middle Ages and onwards. Despite being the earliest remaining sample of its kind, The Book of Sent Soví portrays a lively image of the haute-cuisine dishes that were enjoyed by the members of Catalan Mediaeval nobility and high society. This new edition contains both the original old Catalan text and the translation. It is the first volume of the Set Portes collection of Historic Recipes of the Catalan cuisine. This collection will guide the reader on a path through Catalan gastronomy from its earliest manifestations in the Middle Ages to the mid twentieth century, showing the evolution, transformations, and continuity of Catalan cuisine throughout the ages.
